INVITATION LETTER FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIRPERSON

My heartiest greetings to all!

As the head of DepEd Schools Division Office of Quirino and Conference Chairperson of the local organizing committee, it is my pleasure to invite all of the great educators, academicians, researchers, and Lesson Study practitioners from all over the country to attend the 2nd National Convention on Lesson Study from May 7 to 9, 2020 here in the Province of Quirino, Region II Cagayan Valley.

Lesson study is a Japanese model of continuing professional development for teachers that is school-based and teacher-led. It is also considered as a professional learning process in which teachers, based on existing evidences, collaboratively research, plan, teach and observe a series of lessons using ongoing discussion, reflection, and expert input to track and refine their interventions.

The 2nd National Convention on Lesson Study, organized by the Philippine Association of Lesson and Learning Studies, Inc. (PALS) and in partnership with the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED), Provincial Government of Quirino, and other local partners, aims to bring together teachers, school administrators, researchers, educators, policy makers, and other stakeholders in education to share and exchange knowledge, current issues, research, and practices on various aspects of lesson study with particular focus on opportunities for learning.

With the theme, “Opportunities for Learning in Lesson Study Practice,” the 2nd national convention intends to update participants on developments in lesson study at the international and local levels, provide a forum for sharing of lesson study experiences and research results related to lesson study, and encourage participants to research lesson study and produce research lessons to contribute in its development and adaptation to the Philippine educational context.

The event also gives emphasis on sustaining best practices and teachers’ continuous use of Lesson Study model not only as a workable classroom approach for higher student outcomes but also as one way of implementing the Learning Action Cell, a K to 12 Basic Education Program school-based continuing professional development strategy for the improvement of teaching and learning.

The convention is also committed to make genuine and reliable contributions to the education community. It also makes the perfect platform for local and global networking and linkaging of education lovers as it brings together renowned speakers and educators across the country and South East Asia such as Dr. Takuya Baba of Hiroshima University, Prof. Shizumi Shimizu of Teikyo University-Japan, Dr. Christine Kim-Eng Lee of National Institute of Education Singapore, Dr. Arif Hidayat of Indonesia University of Education, Dr. Erlina R. Ronda of UP NISMED,  Pauline Anne Therese Mangulabnan of the University of Fukui, and DepEd Usec.  Diosdado San Antonio.

We invite you to be a part of this educational endeavor filled with enlightening interactive sessions by stellar resource persons, highly engaged research forum on lesson studies, and collaborative sharing of continuous improvement  practices.

Further, participants are encouraged to try the sustainable eco-tourism special tour  packages in association with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Quirino headed by our Provincial Governor Dakila Carlo “Dax” E. Cua and Congressman Junie E. Cua. Join us as we not only learn and study but also explore and experience nature’s wonders in the rustic province of Quirino — the forest heartland of Cagayan Valley!

We look forward to the unique opportunity to learn and network with professional educators in this national gathering on the latest trends and processes in Learning Studies today.

We hope you will join us to make the 2nd National Convention on Lesson Study an extraordinary event!
